World Famous Explorer; Riaan Manser goes on yet another world first adventure. in July 2009 he became the world’s first person to circumnavigate the fourth largest Island in the world, Madagascar, by kayak.
The journey took him eleven months to paddle 5 000km. An adventure taht was extrememly demanding, both physically and mentally. He had to conquer extreme loneliness whilst enduring treacherous conditions like pounding seas, cyclones and an unrelenting sun which combined with salt water, almost pickled him alive.
During this journey he also encountered some of Madagascars’s incredible marine life – humpback whales breaching meters away, giant leatherback turtles gliding alongside him and even his kayak being rammed by a shark. It is an achievement of overcoming the fears of endurance. It will challenge your children’s minds, they will learn fun facts while learning that through perseverance you can get through anything!
